PURPOSE:To obtain a correct density image by the minimum memory device and a simple control mechanism, by determining the installing position of a photodetecting element for detecting a reflected light from an original surface, and the time required for an arithmetic processing for obtaining a correct density from the detected value of the photodetecting element, respectively. CONSTITUTION:A distance between an image exposing position A and a reflected light quantity detecting position B is denoted as L2, and a distance in which a point A' of a position of a latent image exposed onto a photosensitive body 1 in a point A is developed at a point C is denoted as L1. Also, the time when the latent image on the photosensitive drum 1 exposed in the position A after starting an image exposure reaches the position C of a developing sleeve 2 is denoted as t1, and the time when an original placing table moves from the position A to the position B is denoted as t2, then the relation of t1 and t2, and an arithmetic processing time (t) becomes t1=t2+t. Also, when P denotes process speed, L1/P=L2/P+t is satisfied. In such a way, the image of a correct density can be reproduced by varying the time (t) when the position B is determined, and by varying the position B when the time (t) is determined.
