PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound useful as an anti-inflammatory agent and a transcutaneous absorbefacient in high purity and yield in a short time, by reacting azacycloheptan-2-one with a dodecyl halide in a non-aqueous system in the presence of a phase-transfer catalyst. CONSTITUTION:1-Dodecylazacycloheptan-2-one can be produced by reacting azacycloheptan-2-one with a dodecyl halide in a non-aqueous system in the presence of a phase-transfer catalyst of formula (X<-> is proper anion; R1-R4 are alkyl, aralkyl or together with bonding N atom form a heterocyclic group) (e.g. tetramethylammonium chloride). The reaction is preferably carried out by using 1-3pts. of an inert solvent (especially preferably toluene) based on 1pt. of the raw material and using a base such as sodium hydroxide as a hydrogen halide acceptor.
