Information-bearing signals (26) are recorded in some sections (11) of a magnetic record track (10) (for example in a magnetooptic recorder) in a different magnetic flux direction from that in which information-bearing signals are recorded in other sections (12) of the track. An individual mark signal (17) is recorded in each section of the track to indicate the erasure direction of the information-bearing signals recorded in that section of the track.
