PURPOSE:To electrically remove the scale with high efficiency and with a little electric power, by dividing an electrolytic tank into a front stage part and a rear stage part, providing with opposite polar electrodes above and below the steel strip in the front stage part and providing with cathodes above and below the steel strip in the rear stage part when the scale is removed from the stainless steel strip with the electrolytic treatment in the electrolyte. CONSTITUTION:When the scale of the surface of the stainless steel strip is removed by treating the strip with the electrolysis in the conc. sulfuric acid soln. The electrolytic tank is divided into the front stage electrolytic tank 1 and the rear stage electrolytic tank 14. The stainless steel strip 3 is electrolytically treated by passing through between two sets of electrodes 4, 5 and 8, 9 having different polarity each with the electric power supply 6, 6 which passing the strip 3 into the electrolyte 2 in the front stage electrolytic tank 1. Then the strip 3 is passed into the electrolyte 15 in the rear stage electrolytic tank 14 via a wringer roll 13 and is treated with the pair cathodes 11 provided above and below the stainless steel strip in this case. The stainless steel strip having excellent surface condition is obtained by electrolytically removing the scale with a little electric power.
