PURPOSE:To obtain a uniform and proper strength of swirl in each combustion chamber between the cylinders by varying the interval between a suction valve opened port edge and a guide wall in each combustion chamber or the height of the guide wall. CONSTITUTION:A guide wall 5a is formed on the front surface part of an intake main flow in the vicinity of the opened port edge 2a of a suction valve 2, and a guide wall 5b is formed on the opposite side to the intake main stream. When the distance between the guide wall 5a of each combustion chamber 1a-1d and the opened port edge 2a is set to deltaa1-deltaa4, and the distance between the guide wall 5b and the opened port edge 2a is set to deltab1-deltab4, the following relation shall be established: deltaa1<deltaa2=deltaa3=deltaa4, and deltab1>deltab2>deltab3>deltab4. Therefore, each strength of the swirl A, B, C, D in each combustion chamber 1a-1d can be corrected nearly equally. Further, the strength of the swirl can be controlled by varying the height of each guide wall 5a, 5b between the cylinders.
