PURPOSE:To obtain an immobilized peptide useful as a biosensor on an industrial scale at a low cost, by forming a layer having hydroxyl group on a surface of a carrier, contacting and reacting an epoxy group-containing silane compound to the hydroxyl-containing layer and contacting and reacting a peptide compound under reaction condition. CONSTITUTION:A surface of a carrier such as a silicon chip cut from a polycrystalline silicon wafer having high purity is exposed to air to form a hydroxyl-containing layer. A silane compound having epoxy group (e.g. gamma- glycidoxypropyl trimethoxysilane) is made to contact with the layer to effect the reaction of the hydroxyl group with the silane compound and the product is contacted with a peptide compound (e.g. bovine serum albumin) under reaction condition. The epoxy group is bonded with the peptide compound through a covalent bond by this process to effect the immobilization of the peptide compound to the carrier.
