PURPOSE:To weld a coating material with a smooth surface on the surface of a body to be worked, by follow-up feeding the coating material as wire-like electrode with servo control while traveling on the body to be worked and discharging between the coating material and the body to be worked at the time of forming a coating layer on the surface of the body to be worked. CONSTITUTION:In the case that the coating layer consisting of every kind of metal, alloy, inorganic compd. or graphite, etc., is formed, the coating material in the form of the wire-like electrode 1 is rolled round a reel 6 from a reel 2 via guide rolls 3, 4, 5. Then the electric discharge is occurred between the electrode of the wire-like coating material 1 traveling on the guide part 3 and the body to be worked 9 by the electric source 10 while a head 7 attached with these rollers is subjected to follow up with servo control by a motor 8. Thus the coating material 1 is welded on the surface of the body to be worked with even thickness and with smooth surface. The coating material composing the wire-like electrode is consumed by coating with electric discharge, but is not disconnected due to being always fed from the reel 2. Thus the stable coating work with electric discharge is worked.
