PURPOSE:To efficiently obtain an absolute alcohol, by extracting an aqueous solution of an alcohol under specific condition and high pressure, adsorbing the resultant alcohol-containing extracting agent under specific condition and high pressure to remove water and separating the extracting agent from the alcohol. CONSTITUTION:An aqueous solution of an alcohol, e.g. ethanol, etc., is extracted with an extracting agent, e.g. CO2, etc., at 5-130 deg.C under 40-200kg/cm<2>G pressure to provide an alcohol-containing extracting agent, preferably at 1:0.05-0.70 weight ratio of the alcohol to water, which is then adsorbed with an adsorbent, e.g. molecular sieve, etc., at 0-130 deg.C under 15-200kg/cm<2>G pressure to reduce the water content therein to <=0.5wt% based on the alcohol, separate and remove the water. The extracting agent is then separated from the alcohol to afford the aimed compound. The separated extracting agent is compressed and returned to the above-mentioned adsorption treatment step and hydrous alcohol formed in a regeneration step of the adsorbent is used as an extracting agent in extraction treatment of the alcohol.
