The system consists of an interrogator/receiver and a passive transponder. The interrogator/receiver in turn consists of a clock signal generator 1, a group of band pass filters 5, a section for decoding the received data, a unit 4 for inductively coupling the interrogator/receiver to the transponder. The transponder consists of a section E to pick up the power signal emitted by the interrogator/receiver, a section B for encoding the received signal by a predetermined code, which is kept in a memory 15, a section G for phase modulation of the encoded data so that they can be sent wirelessly through the air. The band pass filters 5 are specially designed to detect a frequency bandwidth which is less than a thousandth of the signal frequency. <IMAGE>
