New compounds having the general formula R - (A)n - [ @ - (CHR1)x]y - @ - Q wherein R is a higher hydrocarbon group, Q is the group -R2-S(O)2-O-M, -R2-S(O)2-O-O-M or the group -R2-C(O)-O-O-M and B is hydrogen or has the same meaning as Q. The compounds are useful for enhancing the bleaching performance at washing and give compounds having surface activity as decomposition products.
