PURPOSE:To smoothly execute a communication and a speech by detecting the presence and the absence of the change of the input signal of an asynchronous serial communication input terminal disposed in a CPU and discriminating a sound signal and a communication mark carrier signal. CONSTITUTION:A carrier detection output is fed to the CPU2 from a modem 1 brought into a hand shaking state and a modem 1 receiving output signal detects whether the input signal of the asyncironous serial communication input terminal 3 disposed in the CPU2 changes or not. Then, whether signal received to the modem 1 is the sound signal or the data communication signal is discriminated, when it is the sound signal, a receiver 4 is operated to perform the speech and when it is the communication mark carrier signal, a terminal is operated so as to enter a data communication to execute the data communication. Thereby, when the sound signal is received, a telephone speech can be performed without entering the data communication and after the sound signal is received, if a remote side enters the hand shaking, the data communication can be attained without redialing a telephone.
