PURPOSE:To prevent the noncontact of an electrode and molten metal due to the deterioration of the electrode, etc., by using the conducive mold main body conducting to a molten metal via the molten metal inside a mold and the nozzle as the electrode in order to detect the runout of a tundish furnace. CONSTITUTION:One part of the terminal of the runout detector 6 of the series circuit of a DC power source 6a and galvanometer 6b is connected to the detection sensor 4 covering a conductive coil 2. The other part of the terminal of the detector 6 is connected to the main body of the mold 8 composed of a conductor. If the penetration reaching the detection sensor 4 with the molten metal inside the furnace 1 passing through a crack is generated by causing a crack on the cylindrical wall face 3, the molten metal inside the furnace 1 and sensor 4 conducted. On the other hand, the molten metal inside the furnace 1 and mold 8 are conducted via the molten metal inside a dipping nozzle 7 and the molten metal inside mold 8, so with the generation of the penetration the sensor 4 and mold 8 are conducted and the detector 6 is actuated to detect the runout on the cylindrical wall face 3.
