PURPOSE:To obtain a polymer having high uniformity and excellent physical properties because of high solubility of a catalyst in the resin, etc., by using a specific catalyst in the thermal reaction of a mixture of a polyfunctional cyanic acid ester compound and a polyfunctional maleimide compound. CONSTITUTION:A polyfunctional cyanic acid ester compound (e.g. 1,3- dicyanatobenzene) is mixed with a polyfunctional maleimide compound at a weight ratio of 1:99-99:1. The mixture is incorporated with a small amount of a diorganotin oxide (preferably di-n-butyltin oxide, etc.) and heated to obtain a polyfunctional cyanic acid ester-polyfunctional maleimide polymer. The polyfunctional maleimide compound is preferably a compound produced by reacting maleic anhydrides with polyamines and subjecting the resultant maleamic acid to dehydrative cyclization.
