PURPOSE:To obtain the titled copolyester having excellent heat-resistance, mechanical characteristics, etc., and high melt-moldability and suitable for the production of high-quality molded article, by reacting an aromatic diol containing phosphorus atom with an aromatic dicarboxylic acid, etc. CONSTITUTION:The objective copolyester having an intrinsic viscosity of >=0.5 can be produced by the polycondensation reaction of (A) a phosphorus-containing aromatic diol giving a constituent unit of formula I (Ar<1> is trivalent aromatic group), (B) an aromatic dicarboxylic acid (e.g. isophthalic acid) giving a constituent unit of formula II, (C) an aromatic tricarboxylic acid (e.g. trimellitic acid), etc., giving a constituent unit of formula III (n is 2 or 3) and (D) an aromatic oxycarboxylic acid (e.g. 4-hydroxybenzoic acid) giving a constituent unit of formula IV (Ar<2> is bivalent aromatic group), wherein the amount of the component A is equivalent to the component B+C, the molar ratio of A/D is 95/5-5/95 and the amount of the component C is 0.01-2.50mol% based on the component B+C.
