PURPOSE:To facilitate a take-up operation, by releasing a recording paper from a platen roller and taking up an ink ribbon by driving the platen roller, while the ribbon is held in the same condition as that in recording. CONSTITUTION:When a ribbon end mark is already detected, a recording- controlling circuit 30 reversely rotates a platen roller 15 until the leading end of a cut part of a recording paper 10 is moved off the position of the platen roller 15. When the recording paper 10 pressed by the platen roller 15 is released from the platen roller 15, the paper is drawn into a sagging paper receiving hole 12 under the weight of a drawing roller 18, and it is detected by a paper detector 14 that the paper is returned to a predetermined position. In response to the detection information from the detector 14 or the completion of reverse feeding to the predetermined position, when the circuit 30 drives the platen roller 15 to rotate in a forward direction, the roller 15 feeds forward an ink ribbon 20 clamped between the roller 15 and a thermal head 23, and the ribbon 20 is taken up by a take-up reel 24.
