PURPOSE:To improve resolution by multi-channel recording video signals of plural channels time base extended for respective horizontal scanning lines. CONSTITUTION:The video signals are parallel converted in a multiplexer 5 and the time base is extended twice as long as ordinary through a time base extension circuit 7. The signals of the two channels are respectively brought into an even number string field and an odd number string field in an interlace mode. Accordingly, by using a pair of heads 10a, 10b FM modulated and having a reverse aziumth angle, the odd number string field and the even number string field are simultaneously recorded. In the case of a high picture quality mode, a switch 17 is kept to be opened. The high picture quality of hte resolution twice as high as the conventional by the use of a monitor in which the reproduced signals of the two channels are time base compressed to 1/2 through a time base compression circuit 13 at the time of a reproduction, and the number of lines twice as many as the standard can be displayed in executing a serial converting processing in aserial converting circuit 14.
