The process entails the medium being exchanged by ultrafiltration. The culture medium is first removed from the reactor through a microporous membrane to give a cell-free medium. This medium is passed to an ultrafiltration membrane for ultrafiltration. The filtrate containing low molecular weight components and metabolic products is discarded, and the concentrate is returned to the reactor. Fresh medium corresponding to the amount of filtrate is fed into the reactor from a medium reservoir.
