PURPOSE:To improve an image in quality as well as to prevent any trouble at the time of image formation from occurring, by installing a paper cassette, having the specified characteristic paper built-in, and displaying information of the characteristic in a surface specified position and also a controlling device setting an image forming condition on the basis of the read data. CONSTITUTION:Various kinds of information on paper are printed by a bar code 12 and displayed on one side 11 of a front end, namely, an insertion part 10 of a cassette body 3. This bar code 12 shows paper size, paper thickness, talc quantity, a characteristic of paper quality and the number of initial storage sheets. And, a reading device for the bar code 12 is set up ion the insertion part of the unit body, and at the time of inserting a paper feed cassette 1, all information is read out by utilizing the movement, whereby an image forming condition is set on the basis of the data. Therefore, various conditions such as an image formation range, electrostatic charge, transfer developing bias, exposure, fixing temperature, etc., are properly set, performing the image formation, and image quality is improved, thus any trouble at the time of the image formation is preventable from occurring.
