MANUFACTURE OF PISTON MADE OF CAST IRON

PURPOSE:To obtain the piston made of cast iron in a thin thickness and light weight without any defective casting by combining a sand core at the inner part of the bottomed container like die having an opening part at the upper part, passing a runner on the core close to the bottom part and providing a gate at the runner medium part. CONSTITUTION:With respect to the manufacture of a cast iron made piston, a mold is formed by combining a sand core 3 to the inner part of the bottomed container like die 2 having an opening part 1 at the upper part. In this case, a runner 4 is passed to the vicinity of the bottom part on the core 3 and a gate 5 is provided at the medium part of the runner 4. The molten metal starting to pour poured into the mold cavity 6 via the gate 5 after storing it at the bottom of the runner 4 once at the time of pouring the molten metal. A cast iron made piston of thin thickness and light weight without defective casting can thus be manufactured.
