PURPOSE:To prevent mis-setting of reference identification information by revising the reference identification information so as to discriminate recording information when number of blocks whose reference identification information and recovery identification selected at present are dissident exceeds a prescribed number in reproducing a digital signal from a recording medium. CONSTITUTION:Identification information other than active information is stored in a register and then given to a register 7. The reference information of the register 7 is compared (6) with the identification information NEST in the reproducing information. An output at the coincidence is fed to an AND gate 4, subtracted (8) and when they are dissident, it is fed to an AND gate 9 and added (8). When no error is detected (2), in case of coincidence 6 between the reproducing and reference identification information, an output of the gate 4 appears. A difference 8 of block numbers between coincidence and dissidence in one NRST signal is compared with a prescribed value to discriminate (10) as to the propriety of the reference identification data revision. In case of the revision required, an output 10 appears and the identification information of the register 5 is supplied to the register 7 as the reference of the next reference.
