PURPOSE:To prevent the omission of the printed pages and to prevent the double print by checking the number of pages of the character data remaining at a printer control device through a fault detecting part when a fault occurs and reporting the checked number of pages to an information processing system via a transmission part. CONSTITUTION:A fault detecting part 17 detects a fault of an output part 16 via a fault detecting means 17a to decide the contents of the fault and then checks the number of pages remaining at a page buffer 13 via a page number detecting means 17b. Then the part 17 sets an error code via an error code setting means 17c based on said fault contents and the checked number of pages and sends this error code to a transmission part 18. The part 18 reports the received error code to an information processing system 11 according to a prescribed rule. Thus the system 11 can accurately decide the counted number of pages returned and transmits the character data to prevent the omission of printed pages as well as the double printing.
