PURPOSE:To obtain a disk substrate having an excellent contact start stop resistance characteristic and head static characteristic by spraying very fine liquid drops of a soln. for film formation consisting of an org. metal compd. onto the surface of a substrate for the disk and curing the film, thereby forming ruggedness on said surface. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic film is formed by a method such as sputtering, plating or vapor deposition on the substrate 1 consisting of soda lime silicate glass, etc. This substrate is flat and is formed with the uniform and very small ruggedness thereon. The ruggedness is formed at the pitch in a 0.1-10mum range of the peaks having height ranging 50-700Angstrom when measured by the stylus of a stylus type roughness meter (2.5mum radiums). A soln. of an org. silica compd. such as ethyl silicate is used as the soln. for film formation consisting of the org. metal compd. and the very fine liquid drops of said soln. sprayed on the substrate surface and are cured.
