PURPOSE:To reduce the size of a simple lettering tape making device and securely prevent a sticking phenomenon, by using a laminate of a lettering tape and an ink ribbon tape. CONSTITUTION:A lettering tape making device comprises an input keyboard 1, a display device 2 and the like. According to a printing command from a controlling part 10, a discharging roller pair 6 is driven to pay off a tape 11 consisting of a laminate of a lettering tape 3 having a high tensile strength and an ink ribbon tape 4 from a payoff reel, and transferring is conducted between a printing head 7 and a platen 8. After transferring, the tape 11 is separated into the lettering tape 3 and the ink ribbon tape 4 at the releasing part 9a of a lettering tape cassette 9, and the lettering tape 3 with images transferred thereto is led to the exterior of the device by a discharging roller pair 6, while the ink ribbon tape 4 is taken up by an ink ribbon reel 12. Thus, the device can be reduced in size, and a sticking phenomenon can be securely prevented.
