The device, for use in the textile industry for example, consists of a movable band above the continuous band being printed. The gripper is assisted by a feeler with which are associated sensors which determine the stopping of the band driving motor. The gripper is situated in a carriage which can be moved along a guide parallel with the continuous band and is equipped with pneumatic cylinders for opening and closing the gripper, so that control of the positioning or forward movement is achieved.
