The invention relates to a method for preparing derivatives of natural fats and oils, which is characterised in that fats which are solid at room temperature, or contain constituents which are solid at room temperature, their mixtures with free fatty acids, mono- and/or diglycerides are oxalkylated at increased temperatures with at least one 1,2-epoxide in the presence of basic catalysts, and the resulting reaction products are sulphonated in a manner known per se, if appropriate after epoxidation. The products are particularly suitable for use as leather greases.
