Method for recycling the protective-atmosphere gas of a system for drying a metal coating deposited on a continuously moving strip, by the blowing of a gas layer substantially perpendicular to the strip, at the moment when it leaves the coating vessel, with the aid of nozzles placed in a chamber, characterised in that the gases in the said chamber are sucked up, possibly condensing the vapours conveyed by these gases, and in that they are recycled in the said chamber while keeping the net supply flow rate of the chamber constant, that is to say the gaseous volume leaving the chamber, irrespective of the flow rate required for drying, the volume taken up on the main supply of the blowing nozzles thus being adjusted as a function of the pressure required in the chamber.
