PURPOSE:To detect the weight of an object to be weighed in a short time by detecting light when a light source or a lens system mounted on the elastic body of a weighing instrument moves as the amount of stored electric charge and judging an element having the minimum amount of electric charge. CONSTITUTION:When an object 14 to be weighed is located on a pan 13 and an elastic body 11 is in vibrating condition, a displacement enlarging lens system 17 vertically moves and vertically vibrates passing light on the light receiving surface of an image sensor 22. The amount of received light stored in photosensitive elements 22a in the image sensor 22 in the form of electric charge is converted to digital signals by an A/D converter 23 and transmitted to an extreme value judging device 24 formed in an arithmetic unit 25. The judging device 24 judges the photosensitive element having the minimum amount of received light among those of the photosensitive elements 22a and, from the value of the DC component of a displacement point corresponding to the photosensitive element, the value of the weight of the object to be weighed is detected.
