PURPOSE:To prevent the formation of an unnecessary visible image, and to raise the profitability for using toner, by destaticizing an area which is not transferred, or in which a latent image corresponding to an original image is not formed. CONSTITUTION:The length of the axial direction of a photosensitive drum 2, that is, the maximum recording width is almost the same as length of the transverse direction of A3 size. Accordingly, for instance, when the length of recording paper in the main scanning direction is smaller than the length of the transverse direction of A3 size, such as, when recording paper of A4 size is brought to copying by longitudinal feed paper (feed paper is executed by using the longitudinal direction as the feed paper direction), an area on a photosensitive drum 2, which is not transferred onto the recording paper is exposed and destaticized (side erase) by an erase 4 positioned at the upstream of a developing cartridge of charge. Also, the outside of an area in which an electrostatic latent image corresponding to an original image of a designated area, or the area in which the electrostatic latent image corresponding to the original image of the designated area is exposed and destaticized by the eraser 4. In such a way, toner becomes economical in use, and also, there is no unnecessary toner adhesion, therefore, a cleaning burden becomes light. |
