PURPOSE:To prevent liquid level measurement from being affected by the temperature dependency of the resistance of a superconductive wire by calculating the liquid level of liquid helium on the basis of a reference combined resistance value from memory means and a combined resistance value from combined resistance calculating means. CONSTITUTION:A superconductive wire 1 and a calibrating linear element 3 having resistance-temperature characteristics with reverse polarity are provided in parallel. A prescribed combined resistance value is calculated by combined resistance calculating means 17 on the basis of the values of resistance between both ends of the wire 1 and the element 3. At this time, since the wire 1 and the element 3 having the temperature dependency of resistance with reverse polarity to that of the wire 1 have the same temperature distribution, the inclination constants of the temperature-to-resistance value characteristics curves of both the wires 1 and the element 3 are set to be stored and used in calculation. Thus, since the effects of temperature dependencies can be canceled by each other, highly accurate measurement can be conducted.
