PURPOSE:To make trichloroethylene innoxious, by adding hydrogen peroxide and an iron compound to trichloroethylene-containing waste water. CONSTITUTION:Hydrogen peroxide is added to trichloroethylene or tetrachloroethylene-containing waste water in a mol ratio of 10-25 with respect to trichloroethylene or tetrachloroethylene. Further, an iron compound is added to said waste water in a mol ratio of 0.2 or more with respect to hydrogen peroxide on an iron atom basis and trichloroethylene or tetrachloroethylene is decomposed by oxidation to be made innoxious. As the iron compound, iron sulfate, iron chloride, iron nitrate or iron peroxide are used.
