1,205,563. Polyamides; polyolefin compositions. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 29 Aug., 1967 [13 Sept., 1966], No. 40815/66. Headings C3P and C3R. 0.25 to 10 mol. per cent of units derived from a metal sulphonate salt of 9,9-bis omega carboxyalkyl fluorene mono- or di-sulphonic acid are incorporated in a polyamide to improve dyeability with basic dyestuffs. Several C 4-20 aliphatic diamines, C 6-22 aliphatic dicarboxylic acids, C 5-21 aliphatic aminoacids, and carboxyalkyl fluorene sulphonates are specified. The sulphonated units may be incorporated directly or by heating a polyamide without sulphonated units with a second polymer containing a higher proportion of such units. Viscosity stabilizers e.g. monoamines or acetic acid, dyestuffs, pigments, delustrants and plasticizers may also be incorporated in the polyamides. In examples the sulphonated units are incorporated in nylons 6, 66 and 612 of varying relative viscosity and amine and carboxy end group contents. In Examples 6 and 7,25% of the sulphonated polymer is melt blended with polyethylene terephthalate and polypropylene respectively and the products melt spun. |
