PURPOSE:To detect a position of rotation in a short time by adding 180 deg. to a phase difference between an excitation signal and a detection signal or a phase difference between the excitation signal and a signal obtained by inverting the detection signal, and by determining the position of rotation from the phase difference to obtain data on the phase difference within a half period. CONSTITUTION:An excitation winding of a resolver 1 is excited, a signal detected from a detection winding is compared with the 0 level by a comparator 6, and a rectangular wave signal (e) is outputted therefrom. A value of a N-ary ring counter 3 is latched in a latch circuit 71 at the rise of the output signal (e) of the comparator 6, an output of the latch circuit 71 passes through a selector 73, and the data thereof are read by a host microcomputer of the like. On the fall of the output signal (e), the value of the N-ary ring counter 3 is latched in the latch circuit 71, N/2 is added to the output of the latch circuit 71 by an addition circuit 72, an output of this circuit passes through the selector 73, and the data thereof are read by the microcomputer or the like.
