PURPOSE:To generate diverse envelopes for the tempo tone of the rectangular wave of an electronic metronome and a rhythm instrument by providing a tempo tone clock, an envelope generating circuit, a gate circuit, and a DA converter. CONSTITUTION:A tempo tone output signal 5 from a tempo tone generating circuit 1 is outputted to the envelope generating circuit 2 and gate control circuit 3. The circuit 2 outputs a diverse (n)-bit envelope signal 6 synchronized with the output signal 5. This signal 6 is gated by the circuit 3 with the signal 5 from the circuit 1 and outputted to the DA converter 4. The signal 5 from this circuit 1 is the periodic clock of the tempo tone of a metronome, so an output formed by giving an envelope to the clock signal of the tempo tone frequency of the metronome is obtained from the converter 4.
