PURPOSE:To retrieve a designated position on a recording disk by actuating a foreign matter deleting means in case an address signal cannot be accurately detected for a fixed time or longer owing to the foreign matters stuck on the disk surface. CONSTITUTION:A system control part 24 gives an instruction to a turntable motor control part 12 for drive of a main table motor 11 and decides the position of a disk 10 which is detected by a detecting signal amplifying part 13 with an address signal for retrieval of the position designated by a disk 10 while driving a transport control part 14. In case no address signal is accurately obtained continuously for a fixed period of time in retrieving the designated position of the disk 10, it is judged that the foreign matters like dust, etc., are stuck onto the disk 10. Then an instruction is given to a foreign matter deletion control part 20 to delete the foreign matters out of the surface of the disk 10 via a foreign matter deleting part 19. While the working of the part 19 is stopped when the address signal is accurately obtained. Thus the designated position can be normally retrieved on the disk 10.
