A polycarbodiimide prepared by condensing isocyanates wherein at least one of the isocyanates is a monoisocyanate-containing reaction product of a polyisocyanate with a mono-alcohol or an alkoxy-capped, hydroxyl-containing poly(alkylene oxide) which is hydrophilic in nature. The polycarbodiimide is water-soluble or very readily emulsifiable in the presence of water, and is very effective as a cross-linking agent for carboxyl-containing, water-borne resins, e.g., latexes. |
