PURPOSE:To prevent fire by turning OFF the heater of an electric stove when a combustible object comes close to the main body section of the electric stove to shield the light from a photosensor or a combustible object pushes the guard of the heater and shields the light from the photosensor by a light shielding plate. CONSTITUTION:In an electric stove a light sensor 23 receives, under normal conditions, light through the transparent section 20 of a light shielding plate 21 and a heater 16 is ON. When a combustible object comes on to the electric stove, the light to the light sensor 23 is cut off, and the heater 16 is OFF. Next, if right in front of the electric stove a combustible object, for instance a pillow falls and it stays held against a guard 17, the guard 17 rotates a round hole 18 and the light shielding plate 21 cuts off the light from the sensor 23, and the heater 16 becomes OFF. With this arrangement the heater 16 is turned OFF when a combustible object is placed on the electric stove or cuts off the light the light sensor 23 or when a combustible object pushes the guard 17, so that the safety of the electric stove for the prevention of fire becomes high.
