Electrically bridging mechanically coupled sections of pipeline - using conductive bushing pressed and secured into flange before imposition of protective coating over pipe joint

An electrically conductive bushing (4) is screwed into a threaded bore (3) and covered with a shell (5) whose flange (7) extends over the joint (6) and partly covers its periphery. The shell (5) is mfd., of e.g. PTFE, to withstand the temp. of application of a protective coating (2) and to allow slight sepn. from the bushing (4), with sharp edges which may penetrate the coating slightly. The coating (2) extends to the rim of the joint (6) and the the face of the cylindrical portion of the bushing (4), which is mfd. of highly conductive Cu, brass or Al. USE/ADVANTAGE - In e.g. drinking-water supply network. Cost of guaranteeing electrical continuity is reduced, and protection against esp. electrochemical corrosion is maintained with little or no alteration of joint.
