The invention relates to a device for heat treatment of material webs, in particular textile webs, with a gaseous treatment medium, e.g. a tentering, drying and fixing machine. The object of the invention is to improve the ratio of the width of the device to the width of the material web treated. The aim of the invention is to design flaps, which serve to close bypass openings which make possible the surrounding of the nozzle boxes by the treatment medium, in such a manner that the depth of the pressure boxes arranged between blowers and nozzle boxes can be significantly reduced without a reduction in the treatment quality. According to the invention, this aim is achieved by the pivot axis of the at least one flap being further away from the blower than the outlet opening closest thereto of the nozzle surface of the respective nozzle box. <IMAGE>
