In an arrangement of contact wires (1, 2) which are suspended in pairs at overhead line support points, in particular in tunnels for overhead line-fed electrical tractive units, the contact wires are supported by means of supporting elements (34-41) which can move to a somewhat limited degree. At least one of the contact wires is laid with subsequent tensioning. So that the overhead line points in a straight line do not absorb any lateral forces, the contact wires (1, 2) of a pair are spread apart from one another approximately centrally between the overhead line support points (100, 101) at which they are held closely one next to the other. <IMAGE>
