There is proposed a base frame 1 which, with a drawbar 6 and a running axle 5, produces a trailing sweeping machine or, by frontal attachment of a driving head, produces a self-propelled machine with a driving axle. In both cases, the picking-up apparatus 12 is articulated on the base frame 1 and is guided on the ground by a special arrangement of supporting wheels. Sealing between the movable picking-up apparatus 12 and the stationary pressing device 18 and the channel 27 is effected by cylinder surfaces 23, 24 and 30, 31, whose mid-point 15 ... of the picking-up apparatus 12 lie on the base frame 1. To seal off the inlet opening at the picking-up apparatus 12, a specially shaped baffle plate is proposed, whose guidance and suspension means permit good adaptation. <IMAGE>
