A clamping ring (3) around the pipe (12) is screwed tightly (2) against an elastomeric sealing body (5) in a recess (8) in a tapered section (10). The body is faced with a vulcanised or adhesively bonded metallic ring (4), and combines the functions of an extended lip (6) centred in the recess and a sealing ring (7) braced radially against the conical wall (14) of the taper. The metallic ring bears upon a shoulder (15) of the inside face so as to limit the axial bracing of the sealing ring. USE/ADVANTAGE - Pref. on smooth steel gas pipe.
