A cutting apparatus for plastics, esp. foam insulating blocks, comprises a pref. fixed cutting wire (13) and a pref. movable support table or plate (23). Relative movement between them cuts the block or board of insulation laid on the table. Pref. the table can be moved vertically and a damper or buffer (27) prevents excessive speed. Upper and lower stops for the table may be provided. In addition the table may be tiltable, thus enabling mitre cuts to be made. The wire may be heated or reciprocate like a saw. The appts. is pref. light and portable and suitable for use on building sites.
