A method of making a representation of small amplitude regional variations in the position of the geoid. Natural resources having a density distinguishing from that of the surroundings in the seafloor may cause such variations in the sea surface height relative a reference level. Height values are obtained by means of altimeter data from a flying craft, the orbits of the craft being adapted to each other. Long-wave variations with a wave-length exceeding about 200 km in the geoid position are filtered off. Variations in the geoid position which have a selected spread are amplified, and a geoid position is corrected in respect of interference from the water depth.
|
