Oxidative coupling of hydrocarbons Process comprises heating a compound of the formula YCRR'H, where Y is a group containing an unsat. link adjacent to the CHRR'.R and R' are H alkyl or aryl to produce a compound of the formula Y-CRR'-Y, in the presence of a catalyst comprising an oxide of a metal chosen from groups. IIA, IIIA, IVA, IB, IIB, IIIB, IVB, VIIB and VIII of the Periodic Table , Bi, Cr, W, Te, Se, P, As, and Sb, in an amount between 1% and 99.9999% and an oxide, hydroxide or weak acid salt of a Group IA metal, the ratio of Group IA metal compound to the oxide being between 10-6:1 and 10:1. Suitable starting materials are propene, butene, hexene, acetone, acetic acid and toluene. |
