PURPOSE:To shorten a time from reading an image until displaying it by outputting a read image information to a first storing means while maintaining the size of an original image as it is and simultaneously outputting it to a second storing means by changing the size. CONSTITUTION:At first, an operator sets an original in a two-dimensional scanning device 20. Then, the two-dimensional scanning device 20 scans the original and reads it two-dimensionally, and converts it into the picture information. The picture information is supplied to a picture memory 14 through a picture bus 36, and thus, in the picture memory 14, the picture of the read original is stored, the size of it being left as it is. Besides, the picture information from the two-dimensional scanning device 20 is supplied to a magnification/reduction circuit 31 through an internal bus 34a, and here, the reduction of the picture is performed in correspondence with the size of a CRT display device. The reduced picture information is supplied to a display memory 32, and is stored, the size being the size to which the picture of the original is reduced. Thus, the time form reading the picture till displaying it on the CRT can be shortened.
