A process for producing composite materials in composite casting is to be indicated, in which the layer boundaries in the material no longer show separation surfaces. For this purpose, it is provided that, before the start of casting, the surface of the carrier material present in the solid form is structured and enlarged by mechanical treatment and that the structured surface is enriched with carbon by carburisation in a layer thickness which is to be preset.
