In a device for determining an image section (cropping) of a master film with the aid of a mask, which has at least one rectangular section, for producing enlargements after cropping, there is provided for ease of handling and for preventing the master film from getting damaged or soiled a plate (board) (1) which is like a ground glass plate and has a handling section (3) and two lateral, unilaterally open longitudinal slots (5). The method which uses such a plate is distinguished by the fact that an adhesive strip section is arranged with the adhesive side pointing upwards on a plate which is like a ground glass plate, that the master film is fixedly placed thereon along its edge region, that the section of the mask is positioned above the desired image section, that the mask is pressed against the adhesive strip section and that the adhesive strip section is then separated, together with the master film and mask adhering to it, from the plate. <IMAGE>
