During the production of electrode plates, especially of small tube electrodes for lead-acid accumulators, the active compound is heated before insertion into the electrode support in order in this way to initiate and accelerate the maturing process (ripening process, curing process) of the active compound. The heating is advantageously carried out at 50 to 55@C. An advantageous device for carrying out this method provides a heating block (10) which surrounds the filling tubes (4) and can be heated electrically or by means of liquid or gaseous heating agents.
