Hinge fitting for seats with an adjustable backrest, which has a first hinge part (1), attached to the backrest, and a second hinge part (2), attached to the seat part of the seat, which parts are connected pivotably around a transverse axis (3). A support projection (15), which protrudes laterally from one hinge part (1, 2), is inserted into a cylindrical recess (7), coaxial to the transverse axis (3), on the other hinge part (1, 2) approximately until it reaches the floor of the recess. Formed in the support projection (15) are depressions (17, 17', 17'', 17''') which run parallel to the transverse axis (3) and are intended for the swivelling reception of clamping elements (8) which, when clamped in a spring-loaded manner between the hinge parts (1, 2), make locking of the backrest possible and, when pivoted via a release device, make possible an infinitely variable adjustment of the backrest. <IMAGE>
