PURPOSE:To remarkably promote thermal decomposition, by using a specific amount of hexachlorocyclopentadiene as a decomposition accelerator in thermally decomposing 1,2-dichloroethane into vinyl chloride. CONSTITUTION:1,2-Dichloroethane is thermally decomposed at 300-600 deg.C, preferably 400-550 deg.C to afford vinyl chloride. In the process, hexachlorocyclopentadiene in an amount of 0.001-1wt%, preferably 0.005-0.2wt% based on the raw material is used as a decomposition accelerator. Since the contact time can be shortened by the above-mentioned method and the reaction temperature can be reduced by even 50-100 deg.C if the decomposition ratio is kept at the same level, limitation on equipment materials can be relaxed and operating efficiency of the equipment can be increased because of remarkably reduced deposition of carbonaceous substances. Furthermore, since small amounts of additives are sufficient, there is hardly any fear of contaminating products. |
